What is the electric rate that I pay at my home?

You pay one of the lowest residential electric rates in Arkansas. The residential electric rate is .07468 cents per kWh (Kilowatt-hour) for the first 750 kWh. Anything in excess of 750 kWh would be at a rate of .06858 per kWh. There is also a customer facility charge of $8.00 per month. (The above rates do not include the monthly power cost adjustment.)

What is the monthly water rate?

The residential and commercial water rate is $1.46 per 1,000 gallons for the first 2000 gallons used per month. The rate for the next 18,000 gallons per month would be $2.04 per 1,000 gallons. Additional water rate information can be found on the "Rates & Reliability" page. (The above rates do not include the monthly residential debt service fixed charge. The fixed charge is based on the size of the water meter installed.)

What is the source of supply of PLWC water?

Our source of water consists of one well field containing six wells that extract water from the Wilcox aquifer located 400-500 ft below the ground. This well field is located at Lake Street and 5th Avenue and serves the Paragould and Oak Grove area. It supplies more than one billion gallons of water used by the city every year.

What is in PLWC drinking water?

For information about PLWC drinking water, you can download the PLWC Water Quality Report by visiting the "Water Quality" section of this website.

Does PLWC put fluoride in the water?

Yes. This water system adjusts the natural fluoride concentration upward to the optimal level for the prevention of dental caries (cavities).

How can I locate my water meter and my shutoff valve?

At most homes it is within 20 feet of street but in some instances it can be located several hundred to a thousand feet away. If you do not know where your meter is, then just call PLWC and request to be shown and we will be glad to come by and show you or mark it for you. Most new homes will install their own shutoff valves and they are normally at the base of house where the water enters.

What precautions should I take to prevent damage to pipes during freezing temperatures?

One easy way to prevent damage to pipes from freezing is drain the water pipes. First, collect some water for essential uses in a clean container and store it in the refrigerator. Next, turn off the water supply at the hand cutoff valve. Then, open the faucets inside and outside the home plumbing to drain them. Leave the faucets open to allow for expansion of any water left in the pipes. Be sure to read manufacturer's information regarding your home's water heater. Some special precautions need to be taken on some types of water heaters when the water supply is off. Please read and comply with those specific instructions.
